OVX at Hartford High School

Hartford High School’s Peer Projects teams up with Health Connections to do tobacco use prevention.

 

Our Voices Exposed (OVX) is a high school youth empowerment group focused on tobacco use prevention.   Health Connections was awarded a $3,000 OVX grant from the Vermont Department of Health to work with Hartford High School teens on tobacco use prevention initiatives targeting youth.

Hartford High School’s Peer Projects will be taking the lead to:
 

1. Educate Hartford youth on the health consequences of tobacco use.
2. Research the effects of tobacco advertising on youth tobacco use and advocating to  limit tobacco advertising in local retailers near the school.
3. Distribute Vermont Quit Network information to students who want to quit tobacco.
4. Work  with Hartford Middle School students on a chew tobacco prevention initiative.
5. Conduct tobacco use prevention presentations to Hartford’s 5th graders.
